The current flowing through the high-voltage single-core cable generates an induced voltage in the lead-clad or metal shielding layer. When the cable line is long, the induced overvoltage exceeds the insulation withstand voltage value of the cable sheath and causes the insulation of the cable sheath to be broken down. For this reason, preventive measures must be taken to limit the induced overvoltage, and the better measure is to use cable sheath protectors. The cable sheath protector is made of zinc oxide non-linear resistors and a high-temperature resistant silicone rubber jacket. It is used at the non-grounded end of the cable line with one end grounded and the insulating joint in the cross-connected cable line.
