Metal oxide arrester
Basic principles
Zinc oxide arrester is currently the most advanced lightning protection equipment. Because its core component resistor is made of zinc oxide and various metal oxides, compared with traditional silicon carbide arresters, the volt-ampere characteristics of the resistor are greatly improved and the current flow capacity of the resistor is increased, thus bringing about fundamental changes in the characteristics of the arrester.
When the arrester is under normal operating voltage, the current flowing through the demand arrester is only microampere. When it encounters overvoltage, the excellent nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics of the arrester come into play. The current flowing through the arrester increases to thousands of amperes instantaneously. The arrester is in a conductive state and releases overvoltage energy, thus effectively limiting the damage of overvoltage to power transmission and transformation equipment.
