Cable connector manufacturers tell you: How much do you know about lightning protection measures for modern buildings?
1. Overlap connection, also known as balanced connection and equipotential connection. It means welding various metal objects with thick copper wires, or welding them directly to ensure equal potential. Equipotential bonding is an extremely critical item in lightning protection measures. A perfect equipotential connection can also eliminate the "counterattack" phenomenon caused by a sudden increase in ground voltage, which is often encountered after a microwave station antenna tower encounters a lightning strike.
2. Conduction, that is, lightning rod device. A lightning rod is a grounded metal device with the top end higher than the top of a building. It attracts lightning and conducts the powerful lightning current to the earth, thereby preventing lightning current from passing through the building. Although lightning rods can protect buildings, the wires leading to the ground carry huge currents, which can produce electromagnetic fields and can also damage equipment. Therefore, this measure must be combined with other lightning protection measures to be a complete solution.

3. Diversion. All wires coming from the outside (including power lines, telephone lines, signals or metal jackets of such cables, etc.) must be connected in parallel with a lightning arrester to the ground wire. Not only at the entrance, but also at the casing of every equipment that needs lightning protection. The function is to divert the lightning waves introduced along the conductor into the ground through the arrester, which is to block all the intrusion paths of lightning current. Moreover, it is not a first-level interception, but can be intercepted in multiple sections.
4. Grounding. The first three measures all involve the discharge of lightning energy into the ground, so grounding is the basis of the first three measures. Whether the grounding is appropriate or not has always been a particularly important item in lightning protection technology. It is also the most labor-intensive, expensive and laborious lightning protection measure, and is the focus and difficulty of lightning protection projects.
5. Shield. It is to surround the objects that need to be protected with conductors such as metal mesh, foil, shells, and tubes. From the indoor perspective, it is to block the pulse electromagnetic field of lightning from the space intrusion channel, and strive to have no gaps. All shields must be properly grounded. The above five measures are an organically linked overall defense system. Only comprehensive measures can achieve foolproof results.
